There are those great and wonderful morals that most people with common sense already practice (regardless of religion) and then there are those old beliefs that even I have never understood.

A vast majority of Christian faiths have always preached about the evils of sex and the always efficient method of abstinence that usually leads to either a variety of sexually transmitted diseases or the always difficult to hide pregnancy here and there.

But, what happens when an unmarried teenager or even a single older woman finds herself pregnant as a result of her culture’s failure to teach her about proper forms of protection because everyone believed that abstinence was the key?

Even worse, what happens when that woman or teenager has to make a choice? Should she keep the baby and face the possibility of being shunned by her parental unit for being a “whore” (believe me, it still happens) or should she be forced to run away shamefully from her home and never come back, out of the shame of bearing a child out of wedlock?

Disregard the possibility of abortion because having one of those will condemn you to "hell" even if you are carrying the spawn of your rapist. Heck, every Christian buddy from bible school and the adults around town will deem you a murderer.

These situations drove a woman to do something completely unnecessary and uncalled for, out of the fear brought upon her by her religion.

30 year old devout Catholic, Elizabeth Tevenan murdered her child and bled to death in the process. The woman claimed that she did not know about her pregnancy, but who the heck doesn’t notice that they have been carrying a live and kicking baby in their stomach for the past couple of months?

Upon giving birth to her baby in a downstairs bathroom, the shamed woman stuffed toilet paper into the baby’s mouth and pinched its nose to stop its breathing. Police, suspicious about the woman’s death, returned to the home and discovered the baby hidden underneath a pile of towels.

Elizabeth had been raised in a strictly religious household and there’s no doubt that she was fearful about the repercussions of having a child out of wedlock. As a result, these parents have not only lost a daughter, but a grandchild as well. But, at least they still have their values, don’t they?

News Article: Catholic woman who didn't know she was pregnant killed her baby after birth and then bled to death, inquest hears

Teenage Drunken Stupidity

When is the world going to learn that not all stupidity is rewarded?

A sixteen year old is currently suing her boarding school for allowing her to be a complete moron.

The student, who at the time happened to be heavily intoxicated, fell from her first floor window and is now permanently disabled.

She had been drinking in preparation for the school’s Valentine’s Ball and later failed a breathalyzer test that had her sent back to her room. Ten minutes later, she fell out of the window while leaning forward, damaging her spinal cord.

The school is being accused of failing to care for the student while knowing that she was under the influence of alcohol and for having windows that can actually open all the way.

The private institution currently allows students to drink beer, cider, and wine at social events that happen to be sanctioned by a house master or mistress and also has windows that open up to twelve inches.

Now, should the school be blamed for the stupidity of one of its students? I’m pretty sure that while the school may allow drinking at social events, the student got hammered before the event. Eye-witnesses have even said that the student was not able to walk properly on her own and was therefore sent back under the company of a fellow classmate.

Seriously. Even the average sixteen year old knows the consequences of heavy drinking and common sense tells us that if you can’t take more than two freakin’ steps without falling, then going off to a party isn’t such a great idea.

News Article: Student left permanently disabled in drunken fall sues school for £300,000

The Worthless Boyfriend

Every parent dreads the day in which their teenage daughter’s hormones begin to kick in and boys begin to flock around in search of their unsuspecting prey. Most of the time, these fearful parents won’t approve of the guy, but everyone knows that the rebellious teenager just won’t give a care in the world about what her worried parents have to say.

At this point, parents can either learn to accept the fact that the guy is there to stay or they can try to lay down the law and fail miserably as their daughter constantly undermines them by sneaking out of the house in the middle of the night.

One mother had something else in mind.

The woman, who clearly did not approve of her daughter’s taste in guys, took matters into her own hands and actually tried to kidnap her daughter’s boyfriend with help from a friend. The two women broke into the man’s house and proceeded to duct-tape him with plans of hauling him off and away to an undisclosed location in Northern California.

Now, while it is obvious that kidnapping your daughter’s boyfriend is a definite short-sighted idea, parents shouldn’t give up that easily. Even if you don’t have full control of who your daughter chooses to date, you can still be aware of who she’s dating. Otherwise, your daughter may turn out to be dating a complete and utter jerk like 24 year old Waqas Arshad.

Arshad was driving down the highway while intoxicated with his 17 year old girlfriend. As with most drunk driving incidents, he ended up in an accident as he crashed into a tree. The man was able to survive, but the girl was not as fortunate.

Even as his girlfriend sat there dying from injuries suffered as result of the crash, Arshad walked out of the car and made no effort to save her. Once emergency services arrived at the scene, he simply lied and told them that there was no one else inside the car, thus allowing the teenage girl to burn to death.

News Article: Mom Allegedly Duct-Taped Man

News Article: Mother of girl who burned to death in blazing car slams 'despicable' driver boyfriend who left her to die

Fool in Love

Rock star Meat Loaf said it best when he uttered the phrase “I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that.”

Everyone knows the usual story. The lower class girl meets the upper class boy; they both fall in love, and the upper class parents just don’t approve.

Usually, the boy has two options. He either continues living a sheltered life dependent of his parents’ wishes or he grows a pair and actually does something about it.

However, one 25 year old Egyptian man took it one step further.

The man, who was apparently old enough to take initiative but did not have the balls to do so, chopped off his member in an act of defiance.

The first thing that comes to mind in the wake of this latest act of stupidity is the obvious mental state of the man. No man in his right mind would take a knife and proceed to slice off his privates.

The next question is… how exactly does inflicting permanent damage upon yourself serve as a way to get back at anyone? If anything, the man, who has completely lost his member, will no longer be able to “make love” or have children.

Either way, the man in this story comes out as the clear loser.

While the man may not have had the balls, in theory, it is now safe to say that he doesn’t have the balls in general.

So, how far would you go for love?

News Article: Egyptian Man Cuts Off Penis for Love

Same-Sex Marriage

Like most young people living in California, I didn’t think much about Prop 8 back in November. The possibility of the mostly open-minded California voting to take away someone’s basic human rights never crossed my mind. Of course, like most people my age, I underestimated the power behind groups of people coming together in unison under one cause. I underestimated the power behind Christianity.

In the weeks leading up to the election, Christians began to gather as they went door to door around their neighborhoods warning people of the apocalypse that would come if people voted against Prop 8. One of these Christians even warned me about the outcome of not maintaining the sanctity of marriage as “God intended it to be,” between a man and a woman. Apparently, if same-sex marriage came to be, then people would eventually be marrying their dogs, and soon the whole world would be going to hell in a handbasket.

Sure, these people were supposedly preaching the word of their so-called “God,” but they were also effectively spreading their propaganda to those who were still undecided or just simply didn’t care about same-sex marriage. As a result, Prop 8, the ban on same-sex marriages passed by an approximate five percent of the votes.

At that point, I began to wonder if California was truly as open-minded as it made itself out to be, if not just another judgmental state that excused itself by having voted for Obama in the way that someone would say that they’re not racist because they attended a party along with other black people, even if they never even exchanged as much as a single glance with them.

However, there might be some hope out there after all. In what appears to be a historical first in America, an openly gay teenager has been voted Prom Queen by his peers. The Los Angeles area teenager won over the always judgmental high school crowd through an inspirational and truly thought provoking speech about gender equality in today’s world.

If a crowd of immature 17 year olds can see through their classmate’s sexual orientation, then who’s to say that the next election won’t bring in different results once these teenagers become official voters?

As far as the whole issue of gay marriage is concerned… how exactly does a gay person being able to make their love for their partner official affect you as a straight person or your existing relationship for that matter? That is what’s truly baffling about this whole situation.

News Article: Gay Male Voted Prom Queen in L.A.

Facebook Stops Fraud

Earlier this month I wrote about a man whose wedding plans fell short as a result of one short-sighted decision and his lack of knowledge of the power behind social networking sites: ‘Facebook Ruins Wedding’

Well, it appears that stupidity has triumphed once again on Facebook.

35 year old Claire Harborne had harbored the master plan during these tough economic times. Being a single mother, Harborne had received approximately £6,519 in housing benefits from authorities. The only problem with that was the fact that Harborne was living with her 8 year old daughter and her loving HUSBAND!

So, how did this master plan fall to shreds? The woman, or the “village idiot” as she refers to herself on her profile page, boasted about the fact that she was happily married on her Facebook page!

Seriously? If there’s one thing that criminals should know, it is that one should never post anything personal on a social networking site with the intent of keeping it private. Once it has been posted, it’s there to stay and open for the rest of the world to see.

News Article: 'Single' mother's £6,500 benefits con exposed after she announced marriage on Facebook and Friends Reunited

When in Doubt, Shove!

Ever seen one of those movies where a man threatens to jump off a bridge and off himself? People nowadays are in search of the biggest reward in exchange for the lowest amount of effort.

In recent months, there has been a growing trend among female college students who have found a way to bring in the "big bucks" in a relatively short period of time. Best of all, anyone can do it, with just one catch, they must maintain their virginity.

Not long ago, one American female college student decided that rather than work the long hours to make ends meet, she would sacrifice her only valuable possession left to make it through college.

Soon, news media across the globe was all over the story about the girl who was auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder. With such media exposure, virgins across the globe began to follow in the woman’s footsteps.

However, the life of a virgin prostitute is not as glamorous as it seems, at least not for one student in Berlin.

Romanian-born Alina Percea auctioned off her virginity for the price of £8,800.

While she may have had the time of her life with a 45 year old Italian businessman, she did not count on the fact that prostitution, although legal in Germany, is heavily taxed.

Now, it looks as if the teenage college student will be losing more than half of her “hard earned” cash, leaving her with just a measly £3,000.

The question that remains on everyone’s mind? Was it worth it? The average person would place events such as fires, murder, and even car accidents under the umbrella of emergencies.

However, under no circumstances should anyone waste precious emergency time to report the following as an emergency.

Ohio native Andrew Mizsak placed an emergency telephone call to complain about his 28 year old son’s messy room. The son, who lives in the basement, had apparently made a fist at his father when asked to clean his room.

In this case, I don’t know who to feel sorry for. The father for failing at his parenting duties and having to call 911 as a last resort or the son for being 28 freakin’ years old, still living with his parents (for free) and having a childish tantrum over a simple room cleaning task.

I see this as another case of parents failing to discipline their kids. When you have a 28 year old, an adult even, still living at home and he still doesn’t respect you as a father, you know something went wrong.

News Article: Man Calls 911 Over Son's Messy Room

Banana Assault?

Crime, it happens. And at times it can get boring. Luckily, there’s always that one criminal that mixes creativity with stupidity.

A North Carolina teenager tried the classic, but always creative, banana gun robbery. However, 17 year old John Szwalla was restrained by both the store owner and a customer before any deal could be finalized.

Naturally, when one robs a store with a banana, one tucks it under their shirt. But under no circumstances should anyone allow hunger to tarnish their plans.

It appears that this particular amateur forgot to grab a bite to eat before leaving the home and therefore had no choice but to munch on his weapon of choice.

Upon arrival, deputies took photographs of the remains of the banana and jokingly discussed whether they should add a charge for destroying evidence on top of the newly acquired attempted armed robbery offense.

I always wonder what these criminals are thinking. Was this teen sitting at home watching some television when a rerun of ‘Bananas in Pajamas’ came on the air? Did he suddenly get the urge to grab himself a banana and say “today I’m going to find a new use for this foot-long!?”

News Article: Robber Had Banana 'Gun,' Cops Say

Fatherly Love?

In life there has always been a common stereotype under the belief that girls mature at a faster rate than boys, and for the most part that is visually true. However, does that stereotype remain true far into adulthood? How about fatherhood?

If one is observant, it is quite obvious that children tend to behave differently depending on their supervision. When children are under the watchful eye of their mother, they tend to be more quiet and behaved. When they are under the watchful (or rather un-watchful) eye of their father, chaos tends to ensue.

Now, let’s take the following story as an example.

When giving your children the inevitable talk about sex, it is quite obvious that both the mother and father will bring on a different interpretation. For one single father, this meant introducing his son into adulthood firsthand.

A 42 year old father who drove his son to a red-light district has been arrested for attempting to solicit sex for his 14 year old virgin son. While the father may have introduced his son to the useful art of negotiation (driving the price down £5), he obviously failed to teach his son in the ways of avoiding undercover police officers.

Now, while the average teenager dreams of the day that they will find themselves under these circumstances, one must learn to look at it both ways. Sure, teenagers are having sex anyway, but unprotected sex with a woman from the streets is a whole other story. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.

Next time, just stick to the talk and avoid both the embarrassment and the jail time.

News Article: Father who asked prostitute to take 14-year-old son's virginity as a present is spared jail

Tough Time for Crime

Crime is tough and sometimes criminals just need a break. But, before taking that much needed break, criminals should make sure that they have completed their not so planned out task.

It has been quite the month for criminals and their inability to use common sense or logic.

Let’s look at wanted fugitive Jermaine Askia Cooper, the man just really wanted a burrito. Can you blame the man? He had already earned himself a one way ticket to prison for multiple felony charges.

As a last resort, the man led police officers on a 90 mph chase across two counties. His goal? To eat that one last meal as a free man.

Under the false hope of having escaped from the clutches of the law, the man made a quick stop at the local Taco Bell. Upon arrest the man confessed that he indeed wanted to get his hands on that last tasty delicious burrito.

Well at least Cooper knew he was bound to end up in jail. However, not all criminals are as wise. One man attempted to shoplift a bottle of liquor from a liquor store and for a few minutes he had successful done just that.

However, with an obvious bottle of liquor in his pants, the man made one last stop on his way out the door. He filled out a raffle ticket in hopes of winning the grand prize, a ticket to a Slinger Speedway race. Sadly, the criminal did not count on the fact that the raffle had already concluded and that raffle box was empty. Needless to say, the man won himself a one way ticket to jail.

Now, some criminals have all the luck, but none was luckier than 34 year old Maurice Powledge. The man was arrested three times in four days for stealing a hefty $29 from Wal-Mart in the form of a camera. After countless escapes from the law, the man was finally captured on the fourth day.

Seriously? What are these criminals thinking? These have got to be some of the dumbest criminals in the history of crime.

News Article 1: Fugitive thinks outside bun in 2-county chase

News Article 2: Why? However, the majority of the time, the respect isn’t mutual.

Tyler Frost, a senior at a fundamentalist Baptist school has been given an ultimatum, either skip his girlfriend’s public school prom or face suspension from the private institution.

The Heritage Christian School in Ohio frowns upon rock music and deems it as “part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people’s hearts and minds.” No exaggeration there, that’s a direct quote from their handbook.

Upon signing a statement of cooperation at the commencement of the year, Frost never thought that the school rules would apply outside of the learning establishment. Needless to say, he still plans to attend the prom.

If suspended, the senior would receive an “incomplete” on all remaining assignments and would not be permitted to attend his own graduation. Even worse, if sex and/or alcohol are involved at the event, Frost would face expulsion. And let’s face it, alcohol is always involved at prom, no exceptions.

This is as ridiculous as it gets in my book. It’s okay to enforce your school rules in the classroom, but to enforce them outside because you deem them immoral, that’s just a little overboard. The scary thing is, these dilemmas happen all the time and religion always wins.

News Article: Go to Prom, Get Suspended, School Says

The Things They Swallow

People swallow the weirdest things!

No, I’m not referring to that Filet-o-Fish from your local fast food establishment or any of the other fine selections of grease and junk out there. However, as they proceeded to perform a biopsy, they found green needles coming out of the cut.

Needless to say, the branch was removed from the man’s body.

Due to the fact that a tree of that size is practically impossible to swallow whole, doctors are suggesting that the man swallowed or inhaled the tree bud without knowing it.

Honestly, how does someone swallow such an object and not know about it? It’s true that most people don’t know what’s inside of their highly processed meal nowadays, but one would think that they would have at least noticed that what they were eating was just not normal under any standards.

News Article: 5 cm. fir tree removed from patient’s lung

Breaking In?

Some habits are hard to kick. Drugs and alcohol can be highly addicting, but apparently, so can stupidity.

An inmate in Georgia snuck out of jail to go on a cigarette run. Unlike most inmates that break out in search of freedom, this inmate broke out in search of a convenience store.

The inmate was captured during his quest. However, he was not caught while sneaking out, or even while robbing the Snappy Foods store, he was caught while breaking back into the jail!

25 year old Harry Jackson, in jail for violation of probation and possession charges, must have been in real need of a smoke. He came back with 14 packs of cigarettes, a response to a newly enforced no-smoking policy at the jail.

Seriously? It takes a whole new level of stupidity when you break out of jail and attempt to sneak back in, without thinking that anyone would notice. Those drugs must have done some serious damage to his brain.

The only thing that I can say is…

Kids, stay in school and don’t do drugs. Designed to increase the drinker’s level of alertness and physical performance, these strong blends of sugar and caffeine are great for athletes and college students.
However, they are not to be taken by those suffering from heart failure and of course, children.

Children are known to be hyperactive, especially when sugar is involved. Now picture a hyperactive child consuming an abundance of energy drinks.

One British man is blaming energy drinks for the death of his son. No, his son did not have a heart attack. His son did not explode from all the energy. His son hung himself in his room.

So, where do energy drinks factor into this tragedy?

According to Lee Johns, his son’s behavior changed drastically once he started downing energy drinks.

Oh, of course! How could we forget? His son was this “perfect angel.” He would never be capable of acting out like all the boys his age.

Wake up man! Being active and acting out is all a part of growing up. The 11 year old was approaching his teen years. I’d be worried if he wasn’t acting out.

The father, however, is still convinced that energy drinks are to blame for his son’s change in behavior and is now on a personal crusade to ban the sale of energy drinks to anyone under the age of 16.

The father knew about his son’s habit and ordered him not to drink those drinks again. Because we all know that all young boys always listen to their parents when given orders.

The day of the boy’s death, he had been sent home from school for being disruptive, probably from not taking his adderall, or maybe just bad parenting.

Upon finding out, the father did not yell at his son or give him a good spanking. Instead, he just simply sent him to his room. There his mother found him hanging.

So, let’s assume that those energy drinks were to blame…

How did the boy get the money to buy the drinks? That’s right! He got the money from his father. The same father that was well aware about his son’s habit. So, why did he continue to supply the cash used to buy the drinks?

Parents, pay attention to your kids. All of these recent tragedies could have been avoided with the appropriate amount parenting. If you see your kids acting out, get involved and see what’s really going on. Don’t just assume that children will remain perfect little angels forever. Be aware that times change and kids change. If you don’t follow along with their development, you’ll be left behind in a cloud of ignorance.

News Article: My 11-year-old son hanged himself after becoming addicted to energy drinks, claims father

Child Neglect

Parenting is not for everyone. Once deciding upon having a child, one must take on a whole new level of responsibility. One is not only taking care of one’s self, but taking care of another life form.

This means having to sacrifice some of the joys of non parenting life for one’s child. This also means that if one is not ready for motherhood, then perhaps one must learn to close their freakin’ legs! Or at least wear some protection.

In one of the most recent examples of bad parenting, and perhaps someone who wasn’t ready to transition into parenthood, one woman risked the well being of her child for something even greater. Well, greater as far as her personal list of priorities is concerned.

So, what can be greater than the well being of one’s own child? The answer in this case was shopping!

28 year old Kelly Grimes, a likely candidate for worst mother of the year, felt that shopping was more important than her child.

As the woman and her mother (the child’s grandmother) spent the day out shopping, the toddler spent her day home alone for six hours. Way to go grandma, you sure set a great example!

After several calls from neighbors, officers arrived at the home to find the two-year-old toddler crying as she held on to an empty milk bottle. The child was wearing a heavily soiled diaper and the heat in the home had been left on.

Needless to say, the mother was arrested with a nine month sentence and the child was rescued by social services.

Looking at the circumstances, I would say that nine months is too short of a sentence, especially for a mother who, according to neighbors, made it a frequent occurrence to leave the child home alone.

Seriously! If one is not ready to take on the burden of having a child, one must learn to take the adequate form of prevention and best of all, learn to close those legs. Parenting is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly.

News Article: Mother jailed after leaving soiled toddler home alone so she could go on six-hour shopping trip

Trapped in the Tub

For those who are not confined to their couch and actually leave their homes throughout the day, one walk around the block and you are more than likely to notice an overweight person. Just stumble upon any fast food place and you are likely to find one. Yes, the world is getting bigger and obesity has become a problem.

You know that you have a problem on your hands when you have to call firefighters to help you leave your own bathtub and that’s exactly what one British woman had to do. 49 year old Rosemarie Batey slipped in the shower and found herself trapped between the tub and her own fat.

Fortunately for her, her son happened to be sleeping at the other end of the home and heard her cries for help. Firefighters had to utilize a saw to extricate the woman from the tub. From there the woman was taken to the local hospital and is now recovering from foot wounds suffered during her ordeal.

It makes me wonder why these people let themselves go to the point where incidents such as this are inevitable. People need to get out more and spend some time away from their television sets. And by get out, I don’t mean the daily trip to your local fast food restaurant. I suggest we get out today and exercise, even if it’s a walk around the block.

News Article: Firefighters rescue 22-stone woman who got stuck in bathtub for five hours
