Trapped in the Tub

Posted by Adolfo at 2:59 PM

For those who are not confined to their couch and actually leave their homes throughout the day, one walk around the block and you are more than likely to notice an overweight person. Just stumble upon any fast food place and you are likely to find one. Yes, the world is getting bigger and obesity has become a problem.

You know that you have a problem on your hands when you have to call firefighters to help you leave your own bathtub and that’s exactly what one British woman had to do. 49 year old Rosemarie Batey slipped in the shower and found herself trapped between the tub and her own fat.

Fortunately for her, her son happened to be sleeping at the other end of the home and heard her cries for help. Firefighters had to utilize a saw to extricate the woman from the tub. From there the woman was taken to the local hospital and is now recovering from foot wounds suffered during her ordeal.

It makes me wonder why these people let themselves go to the point where incidents such as this are inevitable. People need to get out more and spend some time away from their television sets. And by get out, I don’t mean the daily trip to your local fast food restaurant. I suggest we get out today and exercise, even if it’s a walk around the block.

Heh. I read this coming home fresh from a walk. I think that simple exercising (such as walking) is an easy thing to fit in even the busiest of schedules, and that people should do what they can to try and make it work. Even if you are at a healthy weight, make sure you get out at least once a day.

Lest you want to be trapped in the tub. So to speak.

I cant say I feel bad for obese people honestly. Think about it, they made the unhealthy decisions to gain X amount of weight and continue those unhealthy ways. Its not hard when you go out to dinner to get a medium, instead of a large, or cut back on your portion size even. Its not hard to get off the couch and go out walking, even if its at a local park, by your house or even at the mall. Obese people want us to feel sorry for them, but why should we when they expect us to help them, when they dont help themselfs first and foremost?

Its sad to hear stories such as this, and stories of people having to be cut out of there homes, but obeseity is a huge problem and its only going to continue.. hell it may become the new standard "skinny" one day in the United States.

Substitue the chips, the soda for a peice of fruit, maybe take a walk instead of catching another episode of your favorite soap opera or gameshow and maybe better your life, so you can be healthier, and live longer.

I think Gene needs to be trapped in a tub... tub of popcorn <3.

Great post to start up conversation ... I agree with all of the above; it's not gonna kill you to go out for a walk, around the park/garden/block; or to use the stairs on the way up etc

It's sad that in some parts of the world, despite 'talks of obesity' there is no action about it. Schools, Colleges, Corporate companies should actively promote wellness & fitness and continue encouraging young people to stay fit; and assist those with obesity issues or those who are unfit/over weight with ways to get back into shape.

Of course each individual must also WANT to actively change their lifestyle so as not to get into embarrassing situations which make headlines (because media doesn't have other news to capture!!)

Great post - thanks for sharing :)
